Meet Manish – one of our Estimators who completed his internship, then joined the team in a full-time role!
Originally from India, Manish has a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from India and a double Master’s in Construction Practice and Project Management from Bond University in Australia. “I have 1.5 years experience in the construction industry as an Architect. My interest in the double Masters developed from my time spent on site trying to organize projects not only from the designing perspective but from the management perspective as well.
We asked Manish about his internship and work with Mathiou Services:
“My Internship at Mathiou Services was originally as an estimator, but I also looked at the scheduling side for some of the projects. Additionally, I experienced a little bit of the purchasing aspect for some projects as well.
My internship was for 20 weeks which was the original time allowed to me by my University.”
What made you go down the internship route?
“During my time at my University, I developed an interest in Quantity Surveying and Estimating through a couple of my subjects – Measurement 1, 2 and 3, Early Estimating and Cost Planning. This is where I decided to go down with the internship as an Estimator.”
How has the process been so far?
“The journey so far has been enlightening as I have learned so many new things and lingos used in the construction industry down here in Australia. Being an International student, not only I learned new construction methodologies used in building construction in Australia, I was also able to relate and bring back some of my experience into the quotes that I produced. I have been able to meet new people, grow in a team and also get new multicultural experiences.
What kind of work have you been doing with Mathiou Services?
I have been working as a Junior Estimator and sending out quotes on a daily basis. I have also been organizing and scheduling some site inspections and also handling some of the purchasing aspects for some projects.
What has been your favourite part of working as an intern?
My favourite job with MS is being as an Estimator as this involves multiple aspects to it and it could turn up to be a crucial aspect in the construction industry.
What was your goal when you joined MS? And how are you tracking on achieving this?
My goal was to gain as much experience as possible in the estimating field and I have been able to track it by the quality of my quotes produced and quotes converted.
