Meet Jonathan
from: Mount Isa, moved to Gold Coast in 2012.
Where are you located: Broadbeach Waters
A little about your background? Lived in Mount Isa for most of my life, initially worked in an accounting firm before moving to Gold Coast for university. Had to put university on hold due to personal reasons, then began to work at a call-centre for Belong Internet. I worked there for over 2 years in both a helpdesk support and sales role. After that I worked for another customer service firm called Oracle CMS. Which did contract customer service work with literally thousands of different companies. After a year I was brought on to take over contract work for Village Roadshow Theme Parks as their Groups and Education Coordinator. Where it was my role to book, organise and manage all the group and school bookings to the theme parks in Gold Coast.
I did that for another 2 years, and then wanted to do something more suitable to my career goal. Which brought me here. Outside of work I don’t do much to be honest. I like to game, build and paint miniatures, do creative writing, and spend time with my partner and our pets.
About Apprenticeship
What’s your apprenticeships/training for? Certificate III in Business
How far into your apprenticeship/training are you? After some delays we managed to begin in March.
What made you go down the apprenticeship/trainee route? It’s a chance to learn and develop my professional career.
How was the process? Very seamless, Mel was a great help. She’s very knowledgeable of the process.
What kind of work have you been doing with MS? Working primarily as the WHS officer.
Favourite jobs with MS? I’m actually enjoying everything I do. It’s a fantastic learning experience. I love getting to read all of the different legislation, regulations, procedures, as well as their accompanying statistics. Then passing that information on and ensuring our employees are following safe work practices. Learning about Navman has been an exciting experience, it’s an awesome piece of software.
Least Favourite jobs so far? I honestly can’t think of something I haven’t enjoyed.
What was your goal when you joined MS? And how are you tracking on achieving this? To learn the ropes and become a member of the team. I do believe I’m becoming more fluent in the role everyday and I’ll be able to finish my certificate. I also feel welcomed and accepted as a part of this amazing team.
